Our Team

Our international team of collaborators includes researchers from over 60 countries and six continents. Among them are world-leading experts in work addiction, behavioral addictions, work and organisational psychology, and clinical psychology. They represent clinical and organisational approaches to compulsive overworking with broad background and experience in various methodological and theoretical perspectives. 

One of the aims of this project is to develop a wide and integrated network of researchers and professionals systematically investigating work addiction, developing consensus agreements on its conceptual status and practical implications, and raising awareness of this counterproductive phenomenon worldwide.

She received her Ph.D. in psychology in 2016 from SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Warsaw, Poland. She also has an MA in philosophy. She is an associate professor of psychology at the University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland. Her research and teaching interests mostly involve substance and behavioral addictions, well-being, and spirituality. She has authored or co-authored many papers on addictions published in reputable journals (e.g., Journal of Behavioral Addictions, Addictive Behaviors, International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, Addiction Research and Theory, Journal of Religion and Health). She was leading several projects concerning addictions, including two financed by the National Science Centre in Poland.

The author of dozens of scientific publications and leader of numerous international and national research projects on work addiction, and its potential early form of study addiction. Recipient of national and international scholarships and awards for his work in this field, including the First Prize in 2017 Emerald/HETL Education Outstanding Doctoral Research Award from Higher Education Teaching and Learning Association (HETL)/Emerald Publishing. Supervisor of the Student Research Group “Experior” which was awarded the First Prize for the Best Student Research Group in Poland in 2018 National StRuNa Competition organized by Student Scientific Movement (SSM) under auspices of the Ministry of Education and Science.
Decorated with The National Education Committee Medal, the highest honour accorded by the Minister of Education for outstanding contribution to education in Poland.

Dr Mladen Adamovic is a Senior Lecturer in Leadership at King’s College London. Mladen has great international experience. Before joining King’s College London, he worked at the University of Melbourne, Monash University, and the University of Auckland. He completed his bachelor and master studies in International Management at the Universities of Kiel, Lisbon, Rennes, and Belgrade.

Dr Marios Adonis is an associate professor of clinical health psychology and is currently the Head of the Social Sciences Department at the University of Nicosia. He holds a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Florida International University (USA), a Masters in Psychology from Adelphi University (USA), a Masters in Health Psychology from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology of Yeshiva University (USA), and a PhD in Clinical Health Psychology from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology & the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University. During his clinical training among other hospitals, he has worked at Mount Sinai Hospital of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine (NY, USA) and at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital of Columbia University (NY, USA). He is a board member of the Cyprus Mental Health Commission and of the Disciplinary Committee of the Cyprus Psychologists’ Registration Council. He has served two terms on the executive council of the Cyprus AntiDrug Council, a term as the National Delegate for the Republic of Cyprus at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and was the Substitute Member at the Management Board of theEuropean Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug Addiction for five years. Dr Adonis has also served as the vice president of the Cyprus Psychologists Association for two terms, served a term on the board of the Cyprus Psychologists Registration Council, and represented Cyprus in the Standing Committee on Ethics of the European Federation of Psychological Associations for two terms. He received his doctorate from the University of Bucharest in 2007 with the thesis “Happiness in the social context of the post-communist transition in Romania” for which he received the “Dimitrie Gusti” award for sociology of the Romanian Academy. He coordinated nationally and internationally funded research projects in the field of quality of life and well-being. Author of numerous studies on the subjective quality of life and social indicators, he was for 10 years editor-in-chief of Romanian sociological journal (Sociologie Românească). Dr. Dana Bdier is a PhD student at the University of Milano- Bicocca. She has a Master degree of Psychological and Educational Counseling from An-Najah National University, Palestine. She is interested in conducting researches that are related to the field of psychology and human sciences mainly in the Palestinian context. She has conducted several researches concerning Internet addiction and video game addiction, gender-based violence in the Palestinian context, mental health of affected populations by war, and since the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, she has been conducted several researches examining the mental health status of Palestinians among different groups such as children adolescents, women, and mental health care providers. Albana Canollari-Baze is a senior lecturer in psychology recognized as Chartered Psychologist from the British Psychological Society. Dr. Canollari-Baze has 16 years of expertise in lecturing psychology as well as conducting research and offering consultancy. She is continuously inspired to contribute to the development of higher education and research institutions as well as mental health related organizations. In her professional path she has shown passion for diversity, inclusion, and ethics, while helping individuals achieve personal and professional goals.

Albana’s career path started in Oxford where she obtained her joined honors in Psychology and Sociology from Oxford Brookes University (2004). Soon after she at the same university she completed her Master’s in Psychological Research (2005), as well as her PhD in Psychology (2013). Drawing from a developmental and cultural psychological approach Dr. Canollari-Baze’s research focused on youth cultural identity development as well as migrating parents’ social representations on their children’s education. Albana has engaged as national and international research expert in two major Council of Europe projects on the education systems in Albania and Kosovo. 

Currently, Albana at Schiller International University as well as University of Paris and University of Dauphine-PSL, in Paris. She is also a vising professor at University of New York in Tirana. In addition, Albana is an affiliated member of the Parisian Social Psychology Laboratory (University Paris 8), Licensed Psychologist from the Albanian Psychologist Order, Certified Counselling Psychologist at Instahelp, COST Member of Pool of Expert, and former board member of the Albanian Institute of Sociology. She is an author and engages in scientific conferences, as well as acts responsibly in institutional accreditation process where she contributes.

Zsolt Demetrovics is a professor of psychology, chair of the Centre of Excellence in Responsible Gaming at the University of Gibraltar, and head of the Addiction Research Group at the ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary. He obtained his MA degrees in psychology and cultural anthropology (ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary) and he received his PhD in clinical and health psychology (addictive behaviours) at the same university. Formerly, he served as dean of the Faculty of Education and Psychology (2014-2021) and director of the Institute of Psychology (2011-2021) at the ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, where he also established the Department of Clinical Psychology & Addiction. He has published over 400 research papers on the epidemiology, assessment and psychological correlates of substance use behaviour and behavioural addictions including gambling, video game use, internet addiction, hypersexual behaviour, exercise addiction, work addiction, and compulsive buying.  He is president of the International Society for the Study of Behavioral Addictions and funding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Behavioral Addictions.

Associate Professor Eglantina Dervishi completed her doctoral studies in Clinical Psychology at Alma Mater Studiorum, University of Bologna, Italy. Her thesis was focused on exploration of empowerment of a forensic mental health institution with a special focus on the faced challenges of staff and patients of the institution. She is currently lecturing Psychology for Master’s programs in School Psychology, Psychological Counseling and Professional Orientation. Her research focus dwells in the area of mental health, psychopathology and positive youth development. Nil Ean got his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Vietnam National University in 2022. Dr. Ean has been giving lectures at the department of psychology of the Royal University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia since 2011 in both Master and Bachelor programs. Dr. Ean has been working in the field of mental health for more than 20 years. He had been professionally trained in trauma treatment and was accredited as a Clinical Supervisor/Consultant. Dr. Ean’s areas of research have been focusing on psychological trauma and substance misuse among most-at-risk and vulnerable populations in Cambodia. He has been working in collaboration extensively with local and international researchers and scientists to promote mental health in Cambodia from prevention to evident-based psychological interventions.

Siw Tone Innstrand is a professor in occupational health psychology in the Department of Psychology and Director of the Center for Health Promotion Research at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). She has a PhD from NTNU on the interaction between work and family.
 

Innstrand is also an affiliated researcher at UC Berkeley Interdisciplinary Center for Healthy Workplaces. She has been a Fulbright Scholar twice at UC Berkeley and Harvard University, Boston.

Her research interests include, among others, occupational health, health promotion, work-family balance, work engagement, workaholism and burnout, interventions, and implementation research.

Innstrand has initiated and developed ARK, which is a comprehensive implementation program to promote psychosocial work environment in academia. Currently over 19 universities and university colleges in Norway, and two in Sweden, are using ARK regularly in their systematic health, work and safety efforts.

Currently she is the WP leader in the EU project H-work – Multilevel Interventions to Promote Mental Health in SMEs and Public Workplaces. Bernadette Kun, PhD is a psychologist and associate professor at the Institute of Psychology, ELTE Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, Hungary. She is the head of the Department of Clinical Psychology and Addictions. She teaches classes related to personality psychology, clinical psychology, and the psychology of addictive disorders. Author of scientific publications in substance related and behavioral addictions, such as work addiction, exercise addiction, or gambling disorder. She has published around 50 referred papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presented her work in numerous international conferences related to addictive disorders. Between 2017 and 2020 she was awarded a postdoctoral research scholarship founded by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences to a project investigating the psychological mechanisms of work addiction. She is a principal investigator of a Hungarian Scientific Research Fund (OTKA) young researcher excellence program titled „Exploring the cognitive profiles of different addictive behaviors (work addiction, gaming disorder, and cannabis use disorder)”.

She is also a Licensed Psychologist with expertise in behavioral medicine, addiction counseling, and ADHD/learning disability assessments. Dr. Lee’s research focuses on investigating socio-cultural factors in psychological phenomena such as social anxiety, (unrealistic) optimism, perfectionism, procrastination, and well-being. She has been collaborating in large cross-cultural research projects on happiness and well-being as well. Dr. Lee’s ultimate goal across her research projects is to translate the research into interventions to reduce psychological distress that interferes with one’s life and/or to enhance one’s current functioning to engage in life in its fullest capacity.

My work experience (over 25 years) is predominantly related to the field of education as follows: from 1992 to 1998, I was hired as a professor of social sciences (Sociology, Philosophy, Constitution and Civil Rights, Traffic psychology, etc.).From 1998 to 2001 I was an employee of the Open Society Foundation/Open Society Institute – Representative Office in Montenegro, as a coordinator of the following programs: Support for Higher Education (HESP), Arts and Culture, Publishing, Women’s Program. From 2001 to 2010 I was working as a coordinator of the Pedagogical Center of Montenegro (PCMNE), where I worked on coordination, training, certification, implementation of various programs and as an MTT (Master Teacher Trainer) of educational programs such as Reading and writing for critical thinking – RWCT; Step by step – SBS (educational child-centered methodology), Inclusive education, Publishing etc. Since 2012 I am the executive director of the NGO Pedagogical center of Montenegro. I have been an active member of the International Step by Step association (ISSA) since 2001. Also, I have been serving as the President of the Management Board of the Foundation for Active Citizenship (FAKT). In 2007 I took the position of a teaching associate at the Study Program for Preschool Education and Pedagogy.
I was appointed as Associate professor by the Senate of the University of Montenegro at 2022. I have been serving as a Deputy Dean for Science and International Relations at the Faculty from 18 September 2014 until 2020. In September 2020 I lead the study program Preschool education in Faculty of Philosophy. Since 2021, I have been working in the position of Vice Dean for Finance and Development in the Faculty of Philosophy.

My research activity is driven by a genuine passion to improve the psychological health of Australian and international workers, particularly via policy level approaches that can influence broad stakeholder action. I am an adaptive and ‘outward-facing’ academic and work across disciplines of psychology, public health, and law/regulation. My expertise lies in qualitative research and public policy analysis, yet I work with quantitative researchers, and together, we provide clear and meaningful recommendations to policy and practice for improved work-related psychological health and reduced injury. 
 
I mainly work on a five-year project (2020 – 2015) at the Psychosocial Safety Climate Global Observatory (PSC-GO) called ‘Mind the Worker: Transformative Change for a Human-Centered Corporate Climate’ led by distinguished Australian Research Council Kathleen Fitzpatrick Laureate Professor Maureen Dollard. PSC-GO is a world-first research platform for managing national and international research on workplace psychosocial safety.

Zahir Vally is an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology at the United Arab Emirates University, and is also affiliated with Wolfson College at the University of Oxford. He conducts research in a wide variety of areas including child development, psychopathology, and psychotherapeutic interventions. Recently, he has developed a program of research that has studied problematic internet and smartphone use in Middle Eastern settings.

Germano Vera Cruz is professor of psychology at the University of Picardie Jules Verne (France), and member of the UR 7273 CRP-CPO laboratory. He is also a data scientist. In the past, he worked as lecture/research/professor at the University of Toulouse Jean-Jaurès (France), University of Quebec in Montreal (Canada) and at Eduardo Mondlane University (Mozambique). He has also worked (a) as a data scientist in a North American multinational company, (b) as a correspondent journalist for Agence France-Presse, (c) as a journalist for the Mozambican newspaper Diário de Moçambique, (d) as a community organizer in a United Nations (UN) project carried out in Mozambique.

Dr. Sherry Xue Yang obtained her Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and was trained at University of Oxford. She was trained in areas of health psychology, behavioral medicine, social work, counseling, and social psychology. She has obtained five national-level grants as principle investigator. She has published over seventy peer-reviewed papers in the areas of mental health and behavioral health. Martin Yankov is currently working in New Bulgarian Univesity. He has obtained a PhD degree in Differential Psychology at Sofia University in 2018. Katerina Zabrodska is a senior researcher at the Institute of Psychology, Czech Academy of Sciences, and an Assistant Professor of Organizational Psychology at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. She is also a Head of the Methodology Department at the Institute of Psychology, a member of the Evaluation Expert Panel in the Czech Grant Agency, and a member of the Academic Senate at the Czech Academy of Sciences. Her research lies in the intersection between Occupational Health Psychology, Positive Organizational Studies and Higher Education Studies. In particularly, she focuses on identification of personal, organizational, and social factors that influence occupational well-being and development of academic potential in the higher education sector. Most recently, she has been involved in projects addressing antecedents of organizational resilience in the public sector and occupational health among primary school teachers. She regularly publishes research addressing issues of occupational well-being, occupational stress, burnout, positive/destructive organizational cultures, and the quality of psychosocial work environments in the public sector. She is also a consultant on workplace bullying and harassment issues.

Piyanjali de Zoysa is a Senior Professor at the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. She is a Clinical Psychologist by profession with a Bachelors (Hon) degree in Psychology, a Masters degree in Applied (Clinical) Psychology, and a Ph.D. Her Ph.D. was on child-directed violence. She co-founded an MPhil in Clinical Psychology degree at the University of Colombo, which is the first training program in professional clinical psychology in the country. She was the founder president of the Sri Lanka Psychological Association. Further, she co-founded and hosts the weekly television program on mental health on Rupavahini, “Winadi 9ya” which is a psychology-psychiatry dialogue. She has held several key positions in national-level organizations including the National Child Protection Authority, National Steering Committee on Child Rights, and the National Mental Health Advisory Council. Her research interests include humanness, culturally appropriate psychological interventions, child maltreatment, and violence.
